Tennyson – Collapse
So much of Luke’s music is inspired by dreams, and again in this piece we began with the idea that he was in a dream and could not escape. Thinking on the most fundamental level about the concept of “Collapse” I thought of The Weeping Demon from Kurosawa’s Dreams. In this case, there is no demon, but there is the sense of being lost and drifting downward; and of course, the incredible glaciers in Jasper National Park, which too are collapsing due to global warming. There are a couple of simple camera tricks when it looks like Luke is falling, and the complementary shots were taken at Niagara Falls during a drive back to Edmonton and the Cabin from New York. We were incredibly lucky to catch the snowfall at the very end of the shoot. Less than 2 minutes later the sky was completely overcast and all remaining light was lost.
