Tennyson & Cabin Music – Pathwork

I had been fascinated by the idea of creating a long-form, trance-inducing, work-facilitating piece of music for some time. When the pandemic hit, Luke and I had the chance to create Pathwork together. I brought my skills from long-form documentary editing to help with the overall structure, while Luke of course brought his excellent production skills to the project. Once finished, then came the task of putting together a video for it. I realized that the video was not going to be something that people would necessarily watch from start to finish, but I wanted it to be interesting whenever they came back to it and I wanted there to be a real Easter egg – a real story for the meditation if they did pay it full attention. I have likewise always been fascinated by mazes and the idea of mystical designs that guide each individual to the “center”. After quite a bit of research and experimentation I settled on a wooden bowl suspended with three strings and a pendulum, along with fairy lights and a rope light. The Zeiss 100mm Macro threw everything into extreme abstraction and I was able to “explore” the newly created terrain with the lens. A long time ago I wrote a poem: “the path is a sphere / the sword cuts / down to the center / and back again / to the surface”. Hopefully the video and music together achieve it.
