Cabin Music – The Story of Birds (Album)

The Story of Birds tells the story of the inner and outer realities of the cabin. Alone in the dark, meditating with the wood stove and moonlight, are you still human? No one may have seen your face for weeks. As my teacher Robert Creeley wrote, you’ll have only “a face like a barndoor’s / and a head of no apparent size / nothing but two eyes.” I wanted the music video to be a journey up from the subway rising into the glass, then the skyline. Chelsea Hecht graced the piece with her taut focus and total abandon. Halfway through our loft shoot, our bird handler arrived with the Aplomado Falcon. He was a real star. I lit the scene with blue and golden light aiming to bring out the textures in the feathers. We’d film for 20 minutes then let the falcon cool by the air conditioner. The ambience was serene and hopefully it translates to the pictures you see.
